Reinforced Concrete (RC) moment resisting frame structures are commonly used for lateralload resisting systems. However, such structures have often suffered damage caused byearthquakes, including permanent damage and/or failure where beam-column joints (BCJs)have been identified as the weakest link in such systems. If BCJs could regain their strengthwith a minimum repair after an earthquake, then the problems associated with permanentdamage could be mitigated. Also in a seismically active area of Saudi Arabia, prior to 1990’smost of the BCJs were constructed without seismic detailing and no shear reinforcement inthe joint. This could result in the failure of these joints in the case of a seismic event. Theobjectives of the research, entitled “Upgrading the behaviour of Reinforced Concrete (RC)Beam Column Joint (BCJ) under Cyclic Load Using Composite Material.” are to investigatethe behaviour of BCJs under cyclic loadings for two scenarios: (1) Non-retrofitted normal RCBCJs, (2) carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) wrapped externally around the existing RCBCJs for the purpose of retrofitting. Three types of BCJs specimens were tested withdifferent detailing reinforcement and retrofitted with CFRP sheet wrapped around the joint. Anumerical modelling of joints with and without CFRP was also conducted by using finiteelement analysis software (ABAQUS), which will help to interpret the monitored behaviour ofBCJs through comparison with the numerical simulation and mechanistic models. Thenonlinear response of reinforced concrete member using Elasto-plastic-damage theorieswhich simulates the cyclic loading behaviour of BCJs was investigated. In the finite elementmodel a parametric study for the thickness and number of layers for CFRP was conductedtaking into account the perfect bond between concrete and CFRP. Moreover, the condition ofthe interface between the concrete and CFRP was studied using finite element model.

Graduation grade 85.5/100 with honor, Ranked 2rd among 80 students. Thesis project: Analysis and Design of a Terminal building of Airport, in this project the design of all the structural element of the terminal building (beam, column, slab, foundation), the structure contain both concrete and steel structure.
